Over the years there have been a lot of persistent myths about the Semantic Web. Really, I can’t blame people too much. The ‘new’ Web has a pretty cryptic name, it’s been a long time coming, and the benefits of this 3rd generation Web infrastructure take some pretty serious geek-cred to really understand. But despite all these good reasons for regular folk to be confused about the Semantic Web, it’s the people who should know better and still spread mis-truths that really get me frustrated!

It’s tough times out there for little companies swimming in big markets, and unlike some pundits, I don’t pretend that the Semantic Web has already “made it” as a quantifiable software market. In the Semantic Web for Dummies book, I’ve tried to offer a lot of practical advice about which uses of the Semantic Web are making people’s lives easier today. After almost 10 years of working on data semantics for business software, I can testify that your next “greatest thing since sliced bread” software invention better have a dead-simple proposition or else your ideas will be simply dead after a few years. In this market, at this time, the little companies better stay focused on simple, practical, easy-to-understand solutions to problems that lots of people have.

Semantic Web for Dummies is here! At long last the Dummies series book for the Semantic Web has hit the presses and is being shipped around the world. This book was ruminating in my head for many years and will hopefully turn on a few more people to the tremendous potential that the Semantic Web makes possible today.
