Building a Semantic Web
CMS Critic
There has been a lot of buzz of late about the Semantic web. More so since Google announced the introduction of rich snippets into their Google searches. We’ve even jumped into the fray by implementing Open Calais technologies on this very site.
… Open Calais enables web platforms to link their content to the semantic web. How does it work? Well, one example is running on this very site. We have the Open Calais module for Drupal running and you can see it in effect when you click on ‘View Tags’ on any of our articles or pages. You’ll notice if you hover over the tags that they are categorized by various things such as people, products, companies, etc. This is what Open Calais does. It allows you to then create topic hubs or pages based around the data … so you can have things broken down into what you are really searching for.
