I just read a blog post from Anthony Bradley, a Gartner analyst, in his post “Don’t Be Fooled. Web 3.0 Doesn’t Exist.”

What I am expecting typically from any such strong opinions (if they are to be more than opinions) are some validation of arguments, but unfortunately I don’t see them in your post. I like the opportunity to debate though.

You don’t need to be an expert to understand the article, and you might find it interesting, even if you know next to nothing about the semantic web.

A fundamental component of the semantic web is the URI. A different way of saying this is that a central requirement of being able to manage human knowledge is having the ability to uniquely identify things. We could use any scheme to identify the things that humans want to store information about, but it just so happens that through an interesting sequence of events relating to the internet, the most popular and enduring has been the URI.

I have a feeling we’re overreacting to this Swine Flu outbreak. At the risk of being callous, don’t a certain amount of people die from various strains of the flu every year? Nevertheless, the Web is driving new disease-tracking and prevention tools.

I came across this in the Ontolog-Forum, and got permission from Mike Bennett, the author, to quote it.  Some great pragmatism here: on the one hand, we need to apply semantics and ontology building to systems development and integration, but at the same time, let’s not get too carried away trying to "model reality."
