DailyMe.com Delivers Personalized News to Publications’ Readers

Neil Budde is President of DailyMe.com and also Newstogram.com. Both endeavors are based around developing consolidataions of articles based on the active use of readers.

Newstogram helps people to understand the news interest to people looking for news, and provides analytics to publishers. DailyMe.com is a personalized news service that learns what readers are interested in and delivers it to them.

- DailyMe removes the difficulty of explicitly defining readers’ interests by semantically analyzing what readers continue to read, and finding more of the same, and delivering that to them.

- The platform continually reviews the readers’ activities and fine tunes what it delivers. However, as few as 5 story views are needed to start the process.

- Newstogram helps publishers present customized mini-sites to each user based on what they are interested in, and what is being published. The platform can be customized by the publisher.

- Analytics deliver deep information about the types of information and the readers that are most important to them. This is beyond the typical page view analytics.

Huffington Post Moderates 90,000 Comments Each Day Using Semantics

Paul Berry is the CTO of Huffington Post. The Huffington Post uses semantic technology in a few areas, and the use of semantic tech has had a significant positive effect on the Post, allowing it to grow rapidly and still maintain an effective editorial oversight for its steady stream of reader commentary.

- The Post has a custom built comments application paired with a moderation component. Their analysis goes beyond simple “bad words”, and uses semantic analysis to review and categorize comments that may need human moderation.

- Their investment in the company Adaptive Semantics brings advanced semantic analysis of comments directly into the workflow.

- The use of semantics has enabled Huffington Post to grow from 3,000 comments per day to more than 90,000 comments per day.

- Developing applications to find ‘sentiment’ on comments and blog posts using semantics.

So, what exactly is the idea about? Roughly, it amounts to a combination of semantic web technology, more bandwidth, and big servers that—thanks to the cloud computing surge—together enable an increasing amount of intelligence in the hands of consumers, and literally so through mobile devices.
