Drupal & Data Descriptions

Stéphane Corlosquet has written an article examining data descriptions for plugable serializations of Drupal entities. He writes, “There’s been lots of discussions on various approaches for serializing entities in the WSCCI group and with Drupal 8 feature freeze only a few months away, it’s time to start coding. JSON-LD was chosen as a potential good candidate for serializing Drupal entities. One of the key features of JSON-LD is the ability to include a @context along with your data. This context describes the data present in the JSON document and is useful for consumers to understand how to best make use of the data.”

He goes on, “Taking a step back and looking at Drupal’s ecosystem, there are other places where such data descriptions are useful, JSON-LD is only one of the many formats that Drupal can support. Others include RDFa, Microdata, N-Triples, and SPARQL for example. Generalizing data descriptions in such a way that they can be used in any serialization format is the topic of my proposal today.”
