The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is looking for a Knowledge System Software Engineer in Laurel, MD. According to the post, this position will “Make critical contributions as part of a multi-disciplinary team working on novel advanced analytic methods for solving critical homeland security problems using knowledge management and semantic technologies.” Responsibilities include: “Design, lead the development of, test and deploy software applications and knowledge bases (60%). Participate in design reviews to gather critical feedback on system design, integration and testing (15%). Develop documentation and present to sponsor on current research and development activities (15%). Interact with users and gather requirements (10%).”

Qualifications for the position include: “At least 5 years of software development experience using Java, .NET, C++ or similar environments. Must have experience with multiple software development environments, web services, service-oriented architectures, software architecture design and development, and software test and deployment. Experience with web technologies and building applications using standards and technologies falling within the semantic web stack (e.g., Triple/Quad Stores). Proficiency with Resource description Framework (RDF) and Web Ontology Language (OWL). Knowledge of SPARQL Graph Query Language. Familiarity with Ontology engineering practices and modeling tradeoffs. Basic understanding of logical inference using RDFS and OWL. Comfortable with continually evolving requirements and ambiguity.”
