Semantic Web Jobs: Time & Aston University

Time Inc. is looking for a Search & Semantic Web Manager in New York City: “The Search and Taxonomy Manager will lead a team of developers and taxonomy specialists in improving the findability on Time Inc. websites. Technologies such as Java, Endeca are used in internal site search for 14 of our websites. Jena, Sesame and RDF databases are used to run our semantic web taxonomies and ontologies.” Key responsibilities of the position include, “Manage relationships with the web product managers, QA , infrastructure and operations teams. Oversee all planning, design, application development and testing activities. Provide consultative leadership in areas such as site search best practices, taxonomy applications, semantic inferencing and content management. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the business mission and functions of Time Inc. websites.”

Across the pond, the Aston Business School is looking for a Research Fellow in Birmingham, UK: “The position involves contributing to the research on a project called Disaster 2.0 which concerns the application of Web 2.0 and Semantic Web technologies to disaster management and emergency response scenarios in the EU. Responsibilities concern the technological aspects of the project including assessing the current relevance and applicability of Semantic technologies to emergency management and disaster relief, developing a new ontology or integrate existing ontologies for this purpose, and designing prototype semantic applications for this type of scenario.”
