Beepl Acquired by Brand Embassy

Ingrid Lunden of TechCrunch recently reported that Brand Embassy has acquired Beepl. She writes, “UK-based Brand Embassy, a provider of social-media based customer care services, is buying Beepl, UK-based a semantic search site that launched in January 2012 to take on Quora,, ChaCha and others in the Q&A space. Brand Embassy says it plans to integrate the company’s technology into its platform, which monitors social media sites to help brands engage better with customers. Brand Embassy’s clients include Vodafone, Telefonica O2, AVG, Diageo, Johnson & Johnson. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but it looks like it may have been a firesale of sorts.” Read more

Beepl Loses CEO, Heads Toward Mobile App

Q&A startup Beepl has gained public interest since coming out of stealth mode in January, but the company has unfortunately lost CEO Steve O’Hear. The article states, “O’Hear confirmed his departure to TechCrunch and says that he remains a minority shareholder and director — although given his departure as CEO he may be leaving that role soon, too. It is not clear yet who is permanently replacing O’Hear as the CEO, but we have heard that the move comes at the same time that Beepl is pushing out a new release of its site and gearing up for a mobile app launch.” Read more

Introducing Beepl, a New Q&A Site

The internet is buzzing with talk of Beepl, the new question-and-answer site. Kit Eaton reports, “It launched to the general public [Monday] in the online expertise-sharing/question-and-answer sphere after a short private test run. Branding itself as a ‘social Q&A site’ that ‘lets users seek answers and opinion from subject specialists, enthusiasts and their social graph,’ Beepl also ‘understands the topics that questions relate to and users’ interests and expertise so that questions automatically reach the best people to reach them.’ That bit of lateral thinking differentiates Beepl in a pretty bustling market, but it’s only one of the novel surprises from the company (starting with the lack of a launch press release).” Read more

Beepl Raises $400K in Seed Funding

According to a new article out of TechCruch, “Beepl, a startup that bills itself as an expertise platform and semantic technology company (with a straight face, no less!), has raised seed funding from Prague-based VC firm Credo Ventures. Beepl was co founded by chief executive Steve O’Hear, who just left TechCrunch to get a taste of tech startup life, and even he wouldn’t tell us how much they’ve raised other than to say it was a ‘six figure amount.’ He should have known better, because we’ve learned from sources that the capital raised amounts to approximately $400,000 (sorry, Steve!).” Read more
