Collibra Launches Semantic Data Integration Solution at SemTech ’09

Collibraʼs Semantic Data Integration solution is a paradigm shift in handling disparate data formats and a new and unique approach to solve the ever growing data integration problem.

San Jose, California – 17 June 2009 – Collibra, a VC-backed spin-off from the Free University of Brussels, Belgium, has launched a new solution suite that will enable enterprises to better manage their data using semantic technology. The Semantic Data Integration Solution suite consists of a Business Semantics Management methodology and the Collibra Studio and Collibra Information Enabler software components.

Business Semantics Management (BSM) is a business-oriented metadata management solution. It acts as the glue that brings people and systems together. BSM provides the same advantages for information as Business Process Management (BPM) provides for processes. BSM increases the insight, agility and efficiency of organizations, and helps to reduce complexity, risks and costs.

Collibra Studio is a product suite that enables IT professionals and business analysts to work together to reconcile and apply the semantics of existing information sources. Collibra Studio allows the creation of business semantics that provide unambiguous definitions, identifications and mappings on existing data sources in a way that is both very simple and very powerful. The user simply writes his or her business semantics in sentences close to natural language. This approach enables any stakeholder to easily capture and verify the meaning and relationships of relevant concepts. The export of business semantics to formats such as CSV, XML, UML, RDF and OWL is supported.

Collibra Information Enabler operationalizes business semantics by automatically generating semantic-aware data services. It automatically translates data because it ʻunderstandsʼ what is inside. The software automatically takes care of the low-level technical details, removing the cost of error-prone, inefficient processes.

Collibra Semantic Data Integration Solution represents a commercialization of more than 100 person years of research. Its launch takes place within the framework of the SemTech 2009 Conference, the industryʼs largest conference on semantic technologies. Collibra is a Gold Sponsor of the event, which takes place at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, California, 14-18 June. The company will be presenting industry use cases and announcing new products at the conference.

PwC Report Recognizes Collibra as Key Industry Player in Semantic Web Field

Latest PricewaterhouseCoopers Technology Forecast Report identifies Semantic Web as crucial enterprise technology, mentions Belgian spin-off Collibra as key provider.

Brussels, Belgium – June 2 2009 – In a ground-breaking Technology Forecast Report, PricewaterhouseCoopers has identified semantic technology as a solution for bridging information gaps, facilitating interoperability and unlocking hidden data in the enterprise. The report describes how the technology can lower costs by reusing data and decreasing the number of custom connections between databases. The forecast also lists a number of providers in the semantic technology space.

Collibra, a VC-backed spin-off from the Free University of Brussels, Belgium, was listed in the report as a key semantic technology provider. Felix Van De Maele, CEO, responds: “We are very satisfied with this report. It comes at exactly the right time. Semantic Technology is basically a way to save money and get rid of integration overhead. Enterprises are looking for ways to cut costs now, and our technology can do that.” Collibra focuses entirely on the enterprise market and offers a suite of solutions based on 10 years of research. “Together with our growing customer base and successful projects, this report strengthens our belief that we are in the right place at the right time. Semantic technology makes a lot of sense, and people are starting to realize that.”

The PricewaterhouseCoopers report comes just weeks before the SemTech 2009 Conference, the industryʼs largest conference on semantic technologies. Collibra is a Gold Sponsor of the event, which takes place at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, California, 14-18 June. The company will be presenting industry use cases and announcing new products at the conference.
