Paul Groth of the W3C has shared a new report out of the Provenance Working Group: “After an intense and fun week at the International Semantic Web Conference, I wanted to bring you up to date with the fourth face-to-face meeting of the Provenance Working Group. The meeting was held the two days before the start of ISWC and hosted by the W3C in their offices. We had 12 in-person participants and several who attended remotely on the phone.” continued…

W3C Provenance Working Group Publishes Last Call Working Draft

Ivan Herman of the W3C reports, “The W3C Provenance Working Group has published a Last Call Working Draft of Constraints of the Provenance Data Model. This document defines a subset of PROV instances called valid PROV instances. The intent of validation is ensure that a PROV instance represents a history of objects and their interactions which is consistent, and thus safe to use for the purpose of logical reasoning and other kinds of analysis. Valid PROV instances satisfy certain definitions, inferences, and constraints.” continued…

Ivan Herman of W3C announced, “The W3C Provenance Working Group has published a Working Draft of PROV-AQ: Provenance Access and Query. This document specifies how to use standard Web protocols, including HTTP, to obtain information about the provenance of resources on the Web. It describes both simple access mechanisms for locating provenance information associated with web pages or resources, and provenance query services for more complex deployments. This is part of the larger W3C Prov provenance framework.” continued…

New Public Working Draft of Provenance Data Model

Luc Moreau of the W3C reports, “The Provenance Working Group has released the fourth public working draft of its data model. The purpose of this blog is to summarize the changes that occurred since the third working draft. From an editorial perspective, three significant changes took place since the last release.”

The first change is, “The document has been reorganized into three separate documents. The data model document focuses on defining the vocabulary, in terms of its types and relations. A second document lists the constraints that should be checked to determine if provenance descriptions are valid. continued…

W3C Publishes New Working Draft of the PROV Data Model

The W3C Provenance Working Group recently announced that the group “has published a new Working Draft of The PROV Data Model and Abstract Syntax Notation. Provenance of information is crucial in deciding whether information is to be trusted, how it should be integrated with other diverse information sources, and how to give credit to its originators when reusing it. In an open and inclusive environment such as the Web, users find information that is often contradictory or questionable: provenance can help those users to make trust judgments. PROV-DM is a data model for provenance for building representations of the entities, people and activities involved in producing a piece of data or thing in the world.” continued…
